Exotic Hot Chocolate
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Truvia® Natural Sweetener. All opinions are 100% mine.
I love everything about the holidays! One of our favorite holiday traditions is looking at Christmas light displays while listening to our favorite Christmas carols and drinking hot chocolate. Rather than shelling out the cash at the local drive-through coffee shop, I thought I would make our own hot chocolate for our recent light-peeping excursion. I found this great recipe on the Truvía® website.
Exotic Hot Chocolate
Provided by Truvía®
www.itisakeeper.com
2 cup 1% milk
1 Tbsp + 2 1⁄4 tsp Truvía® natural sweetener spoonable*
2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1⁄8 tsp cinnamon
1⁄8 tsp cayenne
1⁄2 of a vanilla bean
1⁄3 cup unsweetened chocolate, chopped
3 star anise
pinch of salt
3 cinnamon sticks (Optional Garnish)
In a small pot, combine the Truvía® natural sweetener, cocoa powder, cinnamon, star anise, salt, and cayenne. Cut the vanilla bean in half length wise, scrape the black seeds out of the pod using the back of a knife, and add it into the pot. Whisk in the milk. Place the pot on the stove over medium heat. Whisk frequently so that nothing settles to the bottom of the pot and burns. Once the mixture comes to a boil, remove the pot from the heat. Add in the chopped chocolate and whisk until melted. Pour the hot chocolate into the mugs. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and serve immediately.
Is it a Keeper?
This hot chocolate is absolutely delicious! I absolutely love the warmth that the cinnamon, cayenne and star anise add. Star anise is a bit of a specialty ingredient (I also use it in my Signature Mulled Cider), but you can leave it out if you can find it.
One of the great things about this recipe is you can make it several days in advance. Just refrigerate it after making it and reheat before serving.
I also like that I can cut down on the calories by using Truvía®. Designed for easy, at-home baking, Truvia® Baking Blend is a blend of Truvia® natural sweetener and sugar. It provides sugar-like taste and texture in recipes, but with 75% fewer calories and twice the amount of sweetness than sugar.
Baked goods made with Truvia® Baking Blend will have sugar-like texture and moistness and will bake and brown like recipes that are made with sugar.
One 1.5 pound bag of Truvia® Baking Blend has equivalent sweetness to 3 pounds of sugar, which is approximately 7 cups – enough to make 13 pies, 9 batches of cookies or 6 batches of brownies.
Truvia® Baking Blend is available at retail stores nationwide in a 1.5 pound bag with a closeable, easy-to-use pour spout.
Visit the Truvia(R) website for more tips and information on Truvia(R) Baking Blend.
Do you use Truvia® for any of your holiday recipes? Or would you recreate any of your recipes using Truvia®?
Cheers!

Hot chocolate is the best for EVERY holiday.
I’d never heard about Truvía.
But for diet some,
“75% fewer calories and twice the amount of sweetness than sugar.” – somewhat interesting!
