The other night, it was just my son and I, since Daddy was working. We both wanted a special treat so I searched through my “pile” to find a recipe that my 4 year old could help make.
These Banana Galettes, a recipe from Everyday Food magazine, looked easy enough (and tasty enough), plus there were plenty of tasks my little sous chef could handle! But, I have to say, I had no idea what a “galette” was…and, truth be told, I still don’t really know!
2-8 inch tortillas
1 Tbsp butter, melted
1/4 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp water
4 Tbsp butter
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Place tortillas on a baking sheet; brush both sides with melted butter. Bake for 7-8 minutes, or until golden. If they puff up, press down with a spatula. In a small saucepan, stir together brown sugar, cinnamon and water over medium heat. Stir in butter until melted. Slice bananas diagonally 1/4 inch thick; arrange in overlapping circles on tortillas. Brush brown sugar mixture over bananas. Bake for 10 minutes or until shiny. Cut into wedges and serve warm with ice cream!
Is it a Keeper?
This recipe was so much fun to make! I love cooking with my son — he’s really starting to master his knife skills (with a butter knife, of course!). We both had a blast! And, we both enjoyed these tasty banana galettes!
I was surprised at how simple they were to make, and how good they were to eat. Definitely an easy throw together dessert to have on a special weeknight!
Maybe next time, I’ll drizzle them with chocolate sauce and serve with nuts, whipped cream and a cherry! It would be just like a banana split!
